2018 Toyota Sales Report In India – Fortuner Sales Dropped – GaadiWaadi.com

The Innova Crysta led the way for Toyota yet again while Yaris’ 10,799 unit sales played its part in the growth as well

Toyota Kirloskar Motor endured a decent 2018 with an overall YoY sales growth of 9 per cent with 1,51,480 units. The Japanese auto major has the Innova Crysta as its best-selling vehicle in the domestic space ever since it went on sale in May 2016. It did not disappoint in 2018 either, as it continued to garner volumes for Toyota. A total of 78,130 units of the premium MPV were sold in last year.

Comparatively, it was 5,781 units more than what was managed in 2017 at a growth of 9 per cent. Toyota did not have any big launches in 2018 except for the Yaris midsize sedan. Although not making a huge impact in the sedan, it did help Toyota in increasing its selling numbers, as 10,799 units were retailed since going on sale in April 2018.

Elsewhere, among the models sitting in the mass market segments, the Liva and Etios Cross had registered 13 per cent YoY sales increase. Toyota’s highly popular Fortuner ended 2018 with 21,800 unit sales at YoY drop of 11 per cent. The Fortuner continues to lead the segment despite the arrival of Mahindra’s Alturas G4 and facelifted Isuzu MU-X.

We reckon 2019 will give a clear idea of who will sit on top in the full-sized SUV segment as a new Endeavour is being readied for debut next month and the Alturas G4 is relatively very new to conclude on maintaining consistent monthly sales figures yet. The biggest slump Toyota encountered in 2018 was with the Camry.

The premium sedan witnessed 59 per cent lesser sales, as only 334 units were delivered. Toyota is quickly reacting to the Camry’s woes and is unleashing the latest generation global model in India on January 18. Based on the TNGA-K platform, the 2019 Camry has bigger dimensions and a heavily updated front fascia with improved driving dynamics and a more efficient hybrid system.

Toyota sold 14 Prados and 137 Land Cruisers in India last year while the segment-leading Corolla saw a major dip of 23 per cent with 3,268 unit sales. It will have three new rivals in the form of Honda Civic, facelifted Elantra and the Maruti sedan derived from its own identity. The collaboration with Suzuki will enable wider market exposure for Toyota this year as the re-engineered Vitara Brezza and Baleno could be launched under Toyota badge.
