Maruti Suzuki has increased prices of its top-selling Swift hatchback and Dzire sedan for 2019 along with other models

Citing economical and other reasons, it is common that automobile manufacturers revise – in most cases increase – price range of their models on sale in the Indian market at the beginning of the year. The largest passenger car producer in the country Maruti Suzuki is no different as the rupee depreciation, increasing commodity expenses and macro economic factors have taken toll on them just like everyone else.

Right on the back of a successful 2018 when Maruti Suzuki retailed more than two lakh unit sales of four models individually for the first time, the price hike for the New Year did not come as a surprise. The Dzire compact sedan – most sold car in 2018 calendar year – has its prices hiked close to Rs. 9,000. In the range-topping ZXi+ variant, the increase of price by Rs. 8,870 meant that it now costs around Rs. 8.09 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The top-spec ZDi+ diesel, on the other hand, has its price bumped by Rs. 8,930 to stand at around Rs. 9.06 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). In a similar case, the Swift hatchback’s ZXi+ and ZDi+ variants have their prices elevated by Rs. 8,870 and Rs. 8,930 respectively. Adding them up, Rs. 7.40 lakh and Rs. 8.38 lakh are the new prices for the ZXi+ and ZDi+ Swift models.

The Dzire Tour version is sold in both petrol and diesel iterations in India, and it sees the identical price jump of Rs. 8,870 and Rs. 8,930 respectively. The revised prices stand at approximately Rs. 5.53 lakh for petrol and Rs. 6.53 lakh for diesel versions (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki has hiked prices of other models within its domestic fleet such as Eeco, Omni, Alto 800 and Vitara Brezza. The long-serving Omni and Alto 800 have faced the major hike of Rs. 10,000 each ahead of their possible exits from the market by the end of this financial year. The Alto K10 now costs Rs. 7,000 dearer while the Eeco has got a bit pricier by Rs. 5,000.
