NEW DELHI: Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is a part of the newly created Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, whereas Gilgit-Baltistan is within the UT of Ladakh within the contemporary maps launched by the federal government on Saturday following the bifurcation.
In a notification, the Ministry of House Affairs additionally launched the brand new map of India depicting the 2 UTs with PoK ‘capital’ Muzaffarabad inside the geographical boundary of the nation.
As per the brand new map, PoK stays with Jammu and Kashmir UT and Gilgit-Baltistan with the UT of Ladakh, in response to the maps.
The Ministry of House Affairs mentioned the UT of Ladakh consists of two districts of Kargil and Leh whereas the remainder of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir is within the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

By 2019, the federal government of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir had reorganised the areas of those 14 districts into 28 districts. The names of the brand new districts had been – Kupwara, Bandipur, Ganderbal, Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Samba and Kargil.
Out of those, Kargil district was carved out from the world of Leh and Ladakh district.
The Leh district of the brand new UT of Ladakh has been outlined within the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Removing of Difficulties) Second Order, 2019, issued by the President of India, to incorporate the areas of the districts of Gilgit, Gilgit Wazarat, Chilhas and Tribal Territory of 1947, along with the remaining areas of Leh and Ladakh districts of 1947, after carving out the Kargil District.
