HMD Global reveals long-term plans for Nokia: flagships to become a focus – Phone Arena

Nokia has already had two pretty successful years under the management of HMD Global – over 70 million phones

have already been sold

– but moving into the future it seems as though the brand will

only get bigger

.

After solidifying Nokia’s position in the budget and mid-range segments of the smartphone market, HMD Global’s main goal in 2019 will be strengthening and consolidating its brand in the upper-midrange segment of the market. Alongside this, the company confirmed that some premium devices are on the way next year. It didn’t mention any models specifically, but all signs do point towards the release of the

Nokia 9 PureView

in late January.

Now, this upcoming flagship is expected to bring some major advancements in the camera department thanks to its Penta-lens layout. Despite this, HMD Global didn’t shy away from the fact that the Nokia brand is yet to unveil any major innovations. However, it did confirm that becoming a leader in innovation starting next year is currently one of its top priorities. For this exact reason,

HMD Global

expects Nokia flagships to

play

an increasingly important role in the coming years, but more specifically in 2020 and 2021.

In addition to all of this, HMD Global will be investing more money into improving its customer service and hopes to build up a better online community. The company will also be releasing more accessories for its smartphones in the hope of creating a wider ecosystem. On a related note, the company confirmed that future devices will continue its current naming strategy. This means that the

Nokia 6.1

will be succeeded by the

Nokia 6

.2, 6.3, and so on.

Lastly, in regards to what is not in the pipeline, the company currently has no plans for any new retro feature phones such as the new

Nokia 3310

and

Nokia 8110 4G

. Additionally, consumers shouldn’t expect a Nokia-branded gaming smartphone anytime soon.
