New Delhi: Within a span of 24 hours after announcing his divorce, Jeff Bezos — the world’s richest man — is reportedly caught in an embarrassing sexting scandal for allegedly sending multiple sexually explicit messages to former television host Lauren Sanchez, according to several media reports. It may be noted that Jeff Bezos and wife MacKenzie, on Wednesday, announced their split in a statement on the billionaire’s Twitter account.

Jeff Bezos, 54, reportedly told Lauren Sanchez, 49,: “I want to smell you, I want to breathe you in. I want to hold you tight… I want to kiss your lips… I love you. I am in love with you,” according to ToI which cited the National Enquirer report. Entertainment news website TMZ, citing sources, mentioned that Lauren Sanchez has been “seeing” Bezos as of late last year.

The Telegraph, London, mentioned citing the National Enquirer story that the Amazon boss used his “private jet for secret meetings with Sanchez”, took her on exotic locations and even sent “sexual images of himself”.

US President Donald Trump, reacting to news of the divorce, said: “I wish him luck. It’s going to be a beauty.” Worth mentioning here is that Donald Trump, who has been divorced twice, is no stranger to marital controversies.

There is one school of thought that argues that Jeff Bezos’s divorce saga and the alleged text exchanges with Lauren Sanchez is politically motivated as the US-based tabloid the Enquirer is an ally of the US President — a vocal critic of Jeff Bezos, who owns the Washington Post. Donald Trump has repeatedly lambasted Jeff Bezos and the newspaper on Twitter for his administration’s coverage in the Washington Post

According to the Telegraph report, the Enquirer boss, David Pecker, is a friend of the US President and the tabloid enjoyed a good relationship with Donald Trump leading up to the 2016 presidential polls. In 2018, Pecker had been granted immunity by US prosecutors for his cooperation during the prosecution of Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former lawyer, over alleged payments to women during the 2016 polls.

MSNBC‘s host Chris Hayes pointed out on the micro-blogging site Twitter that the Enquirer’s exclusive as, “Given everything we know about how Pecker’s National Enquirer has functioned as essentially an arm of Trumpworld, this prompts some questions.”

At present, Jeff Bezos is the world’s richest person with an estimated wealth of around USD 137 billion (according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index). Besides houses in Seattle, Washington, Beverly Hill and New York, the Amazon boss also owns a Gulfstream jet.
