Xiaomi Redmi flagship phone with 48-megapixel camera rumored to launch in January 2019 – gizmochina
Yesterday, Xiaomi President Lin Bin had shared an image of an upcoming Xiaomi smartphone with 48-megapixel rear camera through Weibo. Bin has also confirmed that the handset will be released in January 2019. As soon as the image appeared on Weibo, Xiaomi fans started speculating that it could be the Xiaomi Mi 9 flagship phone. However, some Chinese leaksters are now claiming that it will not be a Mi series phone, but it could be first ever Redmi flagship smartphone.
The Mi lineup from Xiaomi have always included flagship and high-end phones whereas the Redmi series have featured budget friendly smartphones. However, if the new rumors are true, Xiaomi could be now preparing to launch a Redmi smartphone with flagship specs. One of the USPs of the phone could be the presence of a 48-megapixel rear camera.
The costlier Sony IMX586 48-megapixel sensor may not be present on the device, but it could be equipped with the cheaper Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 48-megpaixel sensor that was in October. The image shared by Bing suggests that the handset could be sporting a premium design since it features a glass rear.

There is a possibility that the rumored Redmi flagship phone may offers a high screen-to-body ratio through a waterdrop notch screen. Around a month ago, Qualcomm had launched the 11nmSnapdrgon 675 octa-core processor and soon after is launch, Xiaomi confirmed that it will be soon launching a phone powered by the same SoC. Since the Snapdragon 675 chipset supports 48-megapixel camera sensors, it is likely that the first Redmi flagship phone could be fueled by the same SoC.
